The MIDDLETOWN SPARTANS are always looking for ways to give back to our community in central Connecticut.

These are some of the events we are involved with in our community:

  • Waterford Country School Christmas Program.
The SPARTANS, in conjunction with the Coast Guard, put on a Christmas program for homeless children.

  • Middlesex Chamber of Commerce -
Bike Night, Hot Rod Show, 5K Run & Christmas on Main Street.

The SPARTANS act as crossing guards at the wildly popular summer events, and during the holiday season, as a team, we're proud to join a larger team, to help Santa hand out Christmas goodies.

  • Hawkwing - Services to send supplies to the Lakota Indian reservation.
The SPARTANS load trucks as part of the drive that brings medical equipment, books and toys to the Lakota Reservation, along the Cheyenne River in South Dakota.

  • Kick Butts for Hearts.
A Woodrow Wilson Middle School program that teaches heart help to junior high students. The SPARTANS speak about maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

  • Kleen Energy Benefit Dinner.
The SPARTANS donated food for a fundraising dinner held to help the families affected by the Kleen energy disaster.

  • School Supply Drive for the Tebughna School.
The SPARTAN players and coaches donated nearly 100 items to the Tebughna school in Tyonek, Alaska. The items included pens, pencils, erasers, paper, notebooks, crayons, markers, basketballs, jump ropes, and soccer balls.

“The Tebughna school is a K-12 school with 31 students and is in the Alaskan bush. All of the students in the school belong to my tribe and are related to me in some way. This will be a yearly event for the SPARTANS and we hope it gets bigger every year.”

    Jeff Hurlburt, Middletown Spartans Owner

  • The Steve Patton Memorial Football game.
The SPARTANS participate in a yearly fundraising event to help the family of Steve Patton a Mass Fury player that died suddenly in 2009.

“We are honored to be playing in this game. Out of all the things we’ve had the privilege of taking part of during our three year history, this one has touched us the most."

Jim Greco, Middletown Spartans Head Coach

November 2008, the untimely death of the Central Mass Fury DE #50 Steven Patton shook the lives of many. He passed away in his sleep that Sunday night at the much too young age of 27. He leaves behind his mother, brother and little 2 year old son, Steven Patton Jr.

Steve was one of the most likeable personalities around the team and when his teammates heard the unfortunate news, they new that they had to do something to remember Steven Patton, known to friends and those close to him as ‘50’. It was decided that the team would hold an annual charity game each spring, rightly named the Steven Patton Memorial Game to honor Steve and help his son little Steven.

"We are very thankful to Jim Greco and the Middletown Spartans for stepping up and being a part of this great event with us." Coach Chambers says, "It has always been very important for us to be involved with our local community and charities, but when this happened it really hit home and was nice to have a class organization like the Spartans step forward to help us in this great cause. I know little Steven lost his father, but it’s nice to see that he can have 50 brothers step up and try and make a difference in his life."

The 1st Annual Steven Patton Memorial Game with be played between the Central Mass Fury and the Middletown Spartans from Connecticut on Saturday June 20, 2009 at 1:00pm at the Leicester Community Field on 20 Waite Street in Leicester, MA. Admission to the game is $10, with 100% of the proceeds going to Little Steven Patton Jr. to help buy books, school clothes and set up a college fund for his future.
